How do I use the HF Wand, step by step?

Start with a clean, dry scalp. Pick the electrode for the area you are treating, switch the wand on at the lowest intensity, and raise it slowly until you feel a mild tingle. Move the electrode slowly over one zone for 3 to 5 minutes, then switch to the next zone. Switch it off when you are done. Your user manual has photos of each electrode.

How often and how long should I use it?

2 to 3 times a week, 3 to 5 minutes per zone. Using it more often will not speed anything up.

Is it safe to use at home?

It is designed for home use. Start on the lowest setting and build up, keep each zone to 3 to 5 minutes, and never use it on broken or irritated skin, open cuts or active acne. Take off any metal jewellery in the area you are treating. If anything feels uncomfortable, turn the intensity down or stop.

Most adults can use it without any problem. It is not suitable if you have a pacemaker, metal implants or epilepsy, or if you are pregnant. If you have any skin or scalp condition, check with a dermatologist first. It is not for children. If you are unsure, ask your doctor before you start.

How long before I see results?

Hair grows slowly, so give it at least 3 to 4 months of regular use before judging. Results vary from person to person. The wand works best as one part of a routine, not as a stand-alone fix.

21 men with androgenetic alopecia used a low-level electrical stimulation device for 30 minutes a day over 6 months. Total hair density rose 12% at 3 months and 19.3% at 6 months, with no serious adverse events. This was a small pilot with no control group, funded by the device maker.

Hair follicles donated by patients with androgenetic alopecia were exposed in the lab to intermittent 448 kHz radiofrequency current.
